Giachin

Two Giachin men of Vodnjan each took a De Franceschi wife. Sebastiano Giachin and Domenica De Franceschi had four children baptised at Vodnjan, 1817–1832 (household h052). Domenico Giachin and Michiela De Franceschi had two, in 1818 and 1821 (household h060). The households list gives each couple and nothing about the husband's origin.

• Michiela is Michiela De Franceschi fu Giuseppe. On 20 February 1833, at Vodnjan house 532, her son Giacomo died, his father already «del fu» Domenico Giachin and she still alive. The entry gives her father's name only as Giuseppe: whether she is a daughter of the Giuseppe De Franceschi (1758–1830) is an inference, and the archive marks it as one. • There were at least three different Michiela De Franceschis at Vodnjan in these years (fu Pietro, wife of Andrea Palin; di Cristoforo; fu Giuseppe, wife of Domenico Giachin). The patronymic, not the name, is what separates them.
• Domenica's birth, about 1795, is inferred from a marriage by 1816; the baptisms do not say whose daughter she was.
• The Vodnjan Liber Copulatorum opens in October 1815; the Giachin marriage is not among the fourteen De Franceschi marriages catalogued from it (1817–1832), so it lies in the book's first fifteen months or before the book begins.

The marriage entry of 1815–16 is, in the archive's words, «a bounded job, not an open one». It would name both of Michiela's parents and so test whether she is Giuseppe's daughter.
