the direct line, argued on the line

This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Brothers and sisters are not drawn here: this archive records kin against a NAME rather than against a person, so the family on a name page may belong to several different people of that name. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.

One relationship on this chart was never date-tested. This archive refuses a relative whose years do not fit — more than six out for a child, outside twelve to sixty for a parent. Where one side has no year at all that test cannot run, and the link is drawn on the name. It is shown because most people in the early registers carry no year, and refusing them would empty the chart of the centuries this archive exists to show. It is counted here because a line nothing tested is a weaker claim than a line that passed, and the chart cannot tell them apart.

What the archive knows

⚠ Correction, 28 September. This row was written up yesterday as a child of Valentino × Helena, the Carnian who came to Fiume in the 1730s. It is not. That couple's children run 1737–1757, and Pietro's act names his mother as Ursula, not Helena. Anna Maria is a child of the LATER Valentino — Valentinus Defranceschi, born 1775/76, who married Ursula de Berzoni at Fiume on 6 October 1793 (1:1:6YBR-ZFPR). Baptised at Fiume on 4 March 1801. Right family, right port, wrong generation — which is the error this archive spent yesterday cataloguing in other people's work. Read on FamilySearch, 28 September 2026. Right woman, right town, wrong century — by forty-three years. 1:1:6B47-F6HL is the baptism of Anna Maria Defranceschi at Fiume on 4 March 1801, daughter of Valentino. The row carried 1844–1879, copied from this archive's own burials data. The record is worth keeping for a different reason: it is another child of the Valentino of Fiume whose household work list 143 is trying to reconstruct. Read on FamilySearch, 27 September 2026.
