the direct line, argued on the line

This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Brothers and sisters are not drawn here: this archive records kin against a NAME rather than against a person, so the family on a name page may belong to several different people of that name. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.

7 relationships on this chart were never date-tested. This archive refuses a relative whose years do not fit — more than six out for a child, outside twelve to sixty for a parent. Where one side has no year at all that test cannot run, and the link is drawn on the name. It is shown because most people in the early registers carry no year, and refusing them would empty the chart of the centuries this archive exists to show. It is counted here because a line nothing tested is a weaker claim than a line that passed, and the chart cannot tell them apart.

What the archive knows

Twice in one day, 29 November 1777, and standing exactly where Antonio used to stand. The Svetvinčenat marriage register closes two weddings that day with «alla presenza mia di Simon Manzoni e Dom.co Defranceschi» and «presenza di Dom.co Defranceschi e di Simon Manzoni» — the same Simon Manzoni who had partnered Antonio de Franceschi, witness 1773 at the altar in 1775. Antonio is not named in the register again after 1775; Domenico appears in 1777. That is a handover in shape, and nothing more — the entries state no relationship and give Domenico no age, trade or father. (doc for the appearances; the succession is inf.) Not merged with anyone. The archive already carries Domenico Gasparo De Franceschi, baptised 9 August 1732 at Svetvinčenat, and a Dominicus heading a household in the 1780 baptisms. Either could be this man. (inf.) He finally appears under his own name in the baptism register, with the honorific. Frame 106, 13 October 1784: «Patrini fuere Dnvs Dominicvs de Franceschi, et Maria q.m Defuncti Antonii Bergamo» — godfather to Catharina, daughter of Michael and Maria Zursnich. Magnified. Until this entry he existed in the baptisms only as somebody's husband — «Dominicus … et Fosca uxor ejus», «Fusca uxor Dominici». Here he stands at the font himself, styled Dnvs, the same courtesy the register gives Antonio de Franceschi, witness 1773 and withholds from most of the parish. He is a householder of that rank. (doc.) One candidate can now be struck off. Antonio's son Domenico de Franceschi (b. 1777) was born 25 December 1777. He is five years old when Fosca is already being entered as «uxor Dominici Defranceschi» in September 1782, and not yet seven when this Domenico stands godfather in October 1784. The two are different men and must never be merged. The remaining candidates are unchanged: Domenico Gasparo, baptised 9 August 1732, or a Dominicus this archive has not yet placed. (doc for the elimination; the identification stays open.)

No one else in this archive carries this name.
