This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Brothers and sisters are not drawn here: this archive records kin against a NAME rather than against a person, so the family on a name page may belong to several different people of that name. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.

One relationship on this chart was never date-tested. This archive refuses a relative whose years do not fit — more than six out for a child, outside twelve to sixty for a parent. Where one side has no year at all that test cannot run, and the link is drawn on the name. It is shown because most people in the early registers carry no year, and refusing them would empty the chart of the centuries this archive exists to show. It is counted here because a line nothing tested is a weaker claim than a line that passed, and the chart cannot tell them apart.

What the archive knows

Born at Castronovo on 10 December 1876 — the town the index reduced to «Italy». Passport 109256, issued Washington 6 January 1922: he sailed from Havre about April 1903, lived at Torrington, Connecticut from 1903, and was naturalised before the Superior Court of Litchfield County at Winsted on 14 February 1911. His father is Francesco DeFranceschi, dead by 1922. Castronovo is not pinned. The record gives no province, and Castronovo di Sicilia and Castronuovo di Sant'Andrea both answer to the name. What is certain is that this is not a Friulian or Istrian household — the first southern Italian family of the surname this archive has documented. United States Passport Applications, the image read on 21 September 2026 — the transcript gives only «Italy»; the plate gives the town. (doc)
