Tar
A man of sixty-seven buried here in 1895, and the four-year-old son he had buried twenty-five years before.
Angelus Defranceschi, born 1828, died 23 April 1895 and buried at Tar the following day. His wife is written only as Julie. In the same book, twenty-five years earlier: Julius, born 1866, dead on 8 March 1870 and buried on the 9th, son of Angeli Defranceschi and Luciæ Rodella.
So the wife the burial entry calls Julie is named in the child's entry as Lucia Rodella, and the boy was given his mother's name in its masculine form. That is the whole household: one couple, one child who did not live, and a man who outlived the boy by a quarter of a century.
Tar is four volumes in the filmed collection, opening in 1815 — so this household can be read, and has not been. It sits in the country behind Poreč with Kaštelir, Vižinada, Šterna and Draguč, the block this archive calls the Poreč hinterland: about sixty entries between them, no lane running through any of them, and not one page read by eye.
