What the archive knows

A Croatian civil servant, and the first man of this name the archive has found inside the Zagreb administration. 8 June 1863 — «Narodne novine» prints the royal appointments: «Računarskim savjetnikom: pregledalac računah Antun Defranceski» — appointed accounting councillor, having been an inspector of accounts. (doc.) 17 January 1865 — «Domobran» prints a subscription list for the singing studies of a Miss Ema Vizjak in Milan, and among the donors of one florin each are «Maurović, Kučenjak, Defranceschi i Jugović, činovnici kr. gradj. ravnat.» — officials of the royal building directorate. (doc for the appearance; that this is the same man is inf — the 1865 line gives no forename, and the two offices are not the same office, though a man could move between them.) ⚠ Nothing yet ties him to any line in this archive. He is in Zagreb, not Istria or the Kvarner, and the spelling «Defranceski» is the one this family uses — but so do others. He is here because a one-name study records the name wherever it is found, and because a named official with a dated promotion is the kind of man who leaves a paper trail worth following. Found 28 September 2026 on the Portal Stare hrvatske novine. © Portal Stare hrvatske novine, Nacionalna i sveučilišna knjižnica u Zagrebu, 2009. Born about 1820 — estimated from a man senior enough to be promoted in 1863.

No family is drawn for this name, and no record stands behind it. This archive has not placed it in a household and holds no indexed entry for it — the name reached this project through a chart, a narrative source or the family tree, and everything it does hold is below. The Register is where a record would appear if one turned up.
Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

This person has not been written up in an essay yet — most often read straight off a register page that no index anywhere contains. What is known is at the top, and the pages linked above are where the finding sits.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
