What the archive knows

Named in household h108 on the households list, at Svetvinčenat, as the wife of Giacomo de Franceschi, a De Franceschi, and the mother of Gasparo de Franceschi; Antonio de Franceschi. Evidence class: read — from registers this archive has read. No birth, death or occupation is printed for this person, so none is claimed. Not of the name's surname — kept because the person married into it; the household list gives the couple and nothing about their origin. Recorded by forename only — no surname is printed, so this is a name and a role and cannot be told apart from another woman of the same forename by anything on the page.

Where this comes from

3 of the 3 relationships drawn above are written in a register this archive has read with its own eyes.

Joined on a name alone. One household above could not be date-checked, because this archive holds no year for the person or for the household. Treat that link as a lead.

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

…as a finding. What the leaves actually leave standing is harder. Giacomo's wife is Elena on carta 66 in 1728 (read at magnification), Anzoletta on carta 83 in 1733, and this archive already carried a Maria as his first wife and an Anzola in 1737. Three or four names in ten years is not one man's marriages — it is most likely two Giacomos, which is exactly what the 1733 clerk was signalling by writing «di Pietro» after the name for the first time. The rule this cost. An index…

The doubt above is resolved.» — that Anzola bore the 1737 twins and died, that Francisca followed from 1743, and that «the two women do not overlap». They overlap, and the proof was already in this archive when the claim was written. households.json has carried h107 Giacomo…

One unchecked file cost a wrong conclusion; another cost a right one. Reading a new source now ends with a query against the roster and the households, not with a paragraph. 23 Sept 2026 minor…

…way This archive has said since September that the Svetvinčenat godparent formula is unreliable about husbands' forenames. It was inferred in 1738 from «Agata uxor Jacobi» and «Jacoba uxor Jacobi» appearing inside the years Anzola was alive — three wives in ten months, at least one of them wrong. But which one was wrong could not be said, because there was nothing independent to check any of them against. The doubt was the whole finding. On 27 September the same register…

This item recorded on 22 September that in ten months the register gives «uxor Jacobi de Franceschi» three different wives — Anzola, Agata, Jacoba — and filed it as a caution that a godparent line cannot be trusted about husbands. Here Jacoba is not Jacobo's wife at all: she is PIETRO's. Which agrees with the baptism already read on image 121 — Anna Euphemia, daughter of…

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
