What the archive knows

Born at Pola, a shipwright, and a Landsturminfanterist in a military court case at Belluno in 1918. «Geburtsort: Pola · Beruf: Schiffbauer.» He is spelled with a k, and that is why nobody here had met him. The 20 September sweep of the Austrian State Archives searched the stem Franceschi; «Defranceski» does not contain it, so he was invisible to a search that found ninety-nine other records. A shipwright from Pula in the last year of the war, in front of a military court in the Dolomites. Catalogued at AT-OeStA/KA MGA GS B Belluno Gerichtsfälle GEx Innichen K 887/18 · ÖStA catalogue. Public, permission-free; the file has not been ordered. (doc for birthplace, trade and rank.)

No family is drawn for this name, and no record stands behind it. This archive has not placed it in a household and holds no indexed entry for it — the name reached this project through a chart, a narrative source or the family tree, and everything it does hold is below. The Register is where a record would appear if one turned up.
Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

This person has not been written up in an essay yet — most often read straight off a register page that no index anywhere contains. What is known is at the top, and the pages linked above are where the finding sits.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
