Isidoro de Franceschi, missing 1940–1945
Isidoro de Franceschi, missing 1940–1945. Mione, Ovaro. Every mention of this name in the archive — 1 across 1 page.
«Dispersi» — missing. He has no grave and no dates, and a memorial is the only record of him this archive has found. > GUERRA 1940 – 1945 — MILITARI CADUTI: SPINOTTI ADOLFO · SPINOTTI ERVISIO — DISPERSI: DE FRANCESCHI ISIDORO · MACUGLIA DONATO · MENEGON ANICETO · MICOLI SISTO — «F. F. 19 - 9 - 1954». Read 29 September 2026 from David's photographs of the Carnian cemeteries — Ovaro, Mione, Muina and Agrons. ⚠ Which of the four cemeteries this stone stands in is not distinguished in the photographs, and is not guessed here. (doc.) «Disperso» is the word Italian memorials use for a man who did not come back and was never found — lost on a front, in a camp, or on the retreat, with no body returned and no date of death. He is listed under MILITARI, so he was a soldier. ⚠ This archive has no other trace of him. He is not in the Arolsen collections under any spelling tried, and not in the Yugoslav victims' census — which would not hold an Italian soldier. The Italian military records are the route, and they have not been opened. (open.) --- ⚠ 29 September 2026, an hour later — there are TWO De Franceschi Isidoro, and this page nearly became both. A further photograph shows the war memorial at Muina, «IN MEMORIA DEI CADUTI IN GUERRA», inaugurated 22 August 1920 and set up by «I COMPAGNI DI MUINA» — the comrades of Muina. It is a First World War memorial, and it lists «SOLD. DE FRANCESCHI VITTORIO» and «DE FRANCESCHI ISIDORO». That Isidoro died between 1915 and 1918. This one was «disperso» in 1940–1945. They are a generation apart and they are two men. The First World War Isidoro has his own page. ⚠ Written up carefully because this record was made from a single memorial an hour before the second one arrived, and a name on a war memorial carries no dates to tell two men apart. Where a family repeats a name across generations, a memorial is the easiest place in the world to merge two people.

This person has not been written up in an essay yet — most often read straight off a register page that no index anywhere contains. What is known is at the top, and the pages linked above are where the finding sits.
A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
