What the archive knows

Maddalena / Magdalena Buich (Buić), daughter of the late Paolo Buich, wife of Tomas Defranceschi, mother of Lucia (1844), Michele (1847) and Maria (1852). Written «Maddalena Buich gm Paolo» in 1844 and «Mandallena nata Buich» in 1847 and «Magdalena nata Buich» in 1852. At the Medulin marriage of 1874 her daughter's entry names her «Magdalena Buić cath. agr.» and not as dead. ⚠ THIS ROW WAS FILED AS «MAGDALENA DAVIĆ» until 13 October 2026 — a misread of the Medulin cell, corrected when the Pomer register gave the name four times in two hands. The id is frozen and still says «davic»; the person is unchanged. Source: DGS 005497826 (Pomer births 1816–1834, 1842–1900; FamilySearch waypoint 9R2F-FMH), frame 633, 635 and 637, read at magnification. Aged 27 at her marriage to Tomas on 16 August 1843 (living at house 28, a different house from his), so born about 1816. Marriage: DGS 005497827 (Pomer marriages 1837–1865; FamilySearch waypoint 9R2F-ZNT), frame 10, left page, read at 2.4× magnification. A widow from 5 April 1858, when Tomas died; she lost her son Michele in December 1861. Her own death was not found: the 1867–1910 deaths book records women under the maiden name with the husband after it («uxor X, nata Y»), and that book was read for the surname Defranceschi and not for Buić — so her death may be in it, unfound.

No family is drawn for this name, and no record stands behind it. This archive has not placed it in a household and holds no indexed entry for it — the name reached this project through a chart, a narrative source or the family tree, and everything it does hold is below. The Register is where a record would appear if one turned up.
Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

…and Maria Lorenzin. Born about 1874 — the year his parents married. So the whole presence of this surname at Medulin, across three registers and two centuries, is ONE FAMILY. Maria Defranceschi of Pomer; her father Tomas and mother Magdalena Buić; her husband Petrus Kirac; her son Lucas, who grew up and married; her daughter Fusca, who died at ten months. And, quite separately, a soldier called Mathæus passing through in 1833. That is what reading a parish end to end is for. A surname…

…medulin-1873-maria-defranceschi The archive knew two of her children. The Medulin baptism book gives eight. Maria Defranceschi — «oriunda e Pomer», daughter of the late Tomas Defranceschi and Magdalena Buić — married Petrus Kirac at Medulin on 30 July 1874. This archive met her twice by accident: once as a name in her daughter Fusca's death entry in 1896, spelled «Defrancesco», and once in the marriage register that named her father. Two children were…

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
