Marie Defranceschi
Marie Defranceschi, born about 1881 (somewhere 1880–1881) — estimated, not recorded. Thiébauménil, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France. Every mention of this name in the archive — 1 across 3 pages.
The only woman of the name yet found in Lorraine, and her own daughter's birth act spells her differently from the record that led here. David brought a French Table des successions et absences naming Marie DEFRANCESKI, widow of Louis Alphonse LABAYE, who died at Bénaménil (Meurthe-et-Moselle) on 4 April 1940. Two censuses and a decennial table later, the couple is documented — under the spelling Defranceschi. The 1910 birth register of Thiébauménil, the commune next to Bénaménil, opens its year with her child (2 E 519/7, image 170; acte n° 1): > «L'an mil neuf cent dix, le trente janvier à onze heures du matin. Aged twenty-nine in January 1910, so born about 1880 or 1881. Her husband was a mason, forty-one, born about 1868 — which is exactly the birth year the succession table estimated thirty years later. (doc.) Two daughters, both born at Thiébauménil, from the commune's decennial table (2 E 519/TD 2, images 36–37, a typed table printed 27 November 1995): Henriette Amélie, acte 8 of 11 July 1908, and Marthe Louise, acte 1 of 30 January 1910. A margin note on Marthe's act carries her forward: «Mariée à Bénaménil le 19 mai 1934 avec Ernest Larger» — and the 1936 census of Bénaménil duly lists «Labaye Marthe 1910 Thiébauménil» as the wife of Larger Ernest, peintre, with their daughter Rose, 1927. (doc.) Where Marie came from is still open. The couple did not marry at Thiébauménil: its marriage table for 1903–1912 runs Humbert Jean Charles → Leybach Constant Lucien with no Labaye, and carries no Defranceschi under her own name either. The marriage act — the one record that would give her parents and her birthplace — is in some other commune's register. (inf, for the negative.)
This archive holds 17 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

This person has not been written up in an essay yet — most often read straight off a register page that no index anywhere contains. What is known is at the top, and the pages linked above are where the finding sits.
A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
