The family
No family chart is drawn for this person, and that is a statement about the data rather than about them. This archive records kin against a name — the tree on a name page gathers everyone who shares it, so it may hold one person's dates beside another's wife. Rather than hand a reader a family that might not be this person's, the chart is drawn only where the relationship is recorded person by person, which today means the direct line.
What the archive knows
«Dominicus Defranceschi, et Fosca Uxor ejus», godparents at Svetvinčenat on 16 April 1780.
And again at the end of the following year. Carta 90, 31 December 1781: «Patrini ac sacro fonte fuere Joannes Baptista Mischanic, et Jusca uxor Dominici [De]franceschi» — godmother to a daughter of Joannes Pribcovich. The register writes her «Jusca» here and «Fosca» in 1780, which is one woman and two ears.
(doc — the given names were read at magnification; the surname at spread scale, against a man independently attested twice in the same volume.) Read 21 September 2026, film 005497885, image 93.
Five more appearances, all magnified, all in the same hand. The sweep of frames 90–107 found her at the font again and again:
Seven attestations now, 1780 to 1784. She is one of the parish's standing godmothers — the woman a family asked for when it wanted someone of weight at the font. (doc; every line above read at magnification.)
A caution that belongs on this page. Frame 98 also carries «et Fosca Vxor Martini Merklem» — a different Fosca entirely, four entries above our own. Fosca is a common forename in this parish, not a rare one. Only the full form «Fosca uxor Dominici Defranceschi» identifies her; a bare «Fosca» identifies nobody. (This archive nearly wrote down the wrong woman.)
An eighth appearance, and a correction to how it was first read. Frame 112, 13 December 1785: «Patrini fuere Victorivs de Franceschi, et Fvsca Vxor Dominici de Franceschi». At spread scale the first godparent was read as Antonius; magnified it is Victorius — Vittorio, not his father. (doc.)
Five spellings, one woman — and the list is worth setting out, because a careless reader would make three people of her. Across 1780–1789 the register writes Domenico's wife as:
Fosca (1780, 1781, 1782) · Fusca (1782–86) · Jusca (1782, 1788) · Justa (1788) · Julia (1789)
Every one of them is «uxor Dominici Defranceschi», in a parish with one Domenico of the name. No remarriage is implied by any of them, and none should be inferred. The variation is the clerk's ear, not the household's history. (doc for the entries; the identification across spellings is inf, and firm.)
