Joannes Baptista de Franceschi (of Svetvinčenat, fl. 1739), about 1712

Alive and standing godfather on 19 April 1739 — «Patrini fuere Joannes Baptista de Franceschi, et Clara vidua defuncti Bartholomei Braccato». He is not the Joannes Baptista who was already dead in October 1737. That one is known from his daughter's entry, «Maria filia defuncti Joannis Baptistæ de Franceschi», eighteen months earlier. Two men of one forename and one surname in one small parish — which is the second time this register has done that, after the Jacobos. Father and son is the ordinary explanation; this archive claims no more than that. Joannes Baptista de Franceschi of Svetvincenat d. By 1737 Worth one careful sentence and no more. The Fiume question this archive has been chasing all week turns on a Joannes Baptista de Franceschi of unknown origin who fathers a child there in 1748. A man of that name alive at Svetvinčenat in 1739 is a name in the right decade and nothing else — no document connects them, and this is recorded as a thing to test, not a link.
