What the archive knows

«Andrea fig.o di Giacomo Defranceschi, 5 marzo 1726 — c. 59» — from the A page of the baptism volume's index, magnified and read. (doc, for the index line; carta 59 has not been opened.) He matters out of proportion to what is known about him. A son of a Giacomo born in 1726 is a generation earlier than the children of Giacomo de Franceschi d. Bef 1771 and Pascasia, whose first recorded child is of 1750. That is the independent support for there having been two Giacomo de Franceschi at Svetvinčenat, father and son — which is why the man who married Nicolina Teserati in June 1772 is not merged with the Giacomo Battista de Franceschi (b. 1753) baptised in 1753. (inf.) Nothing else of Andrea has been found.

No family is drawn for this name — this archive has not placed it in a household and holds no indexed entry that names it beside anybody else. A record does stand behind it: the one below, not joined to any household. The Register is where an index entry would appear if one turned up.
The same name, written another way

This archive holds 3 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
