The Archive

Read this number the right way round. The 1151 above counts books, not people — parish registers that exist in the Pazin inventory. It is not a measure of what this archive has done; it is a measure of how much is still unread. This project has opened a book in 7 of these 14 parishes, and the great majority of the 997 digitised volumes have never been looked at.

The comparable counts of people are elsewhere: Everyone holds the roster, and The Register holds every indexed record the surname has produced. A sister project on the Falco family of Arienzo shows 10,536 records naming 4,779 people against those — because it read a town's death registers act by act rather than searching an index for one surname. Six thousand of its people are the town, not the family. That is the difference in method, and this page is the reason ours can close it.
