3 different people of this name
This page gathers every mention of the name. These are separate individuals — not one life — and each has their own page.
- Vitorio Defranceschi — 1720, Rovinj
- Vitorio Defranceschi — 1758 – 1812, Svetvinčenat
- Vitorio Defranceschi — 1813, Fasana
Buried at Svetvinčenat on 8 November 1812, aged fifty-four, which puts his birth about 1758. The burial index records his kin as Antonio — and the parish marriage register, on 4 February 1773, has a witness entered as «Victorio de Franceschi filio Antonij». This archive treats the two as the same man, on three counts: same parish, same forename, same father's name, and his own son of 1811 is called Antonio. (doc for both records; the joining is inf, and it is the firmest inference on this page.) Four of his children are in the burial file — Antonia (1804–1808), Giovanni Pietro (1809), Antonio (1811) and Gioanni Maria (d. 1813). No baptism of his own has been found; see Vittorio de Franceschi, son of Antonio for how far the register has been read.
0 of the 4 relationships drawn above are written in a register this archive has read with its own eyes. 4 come from a FamilySearch index entry — a transcription, not the page.
1 household was rejected before this chart was drawn, because the dates do not fit a person of this name: Vitorio De Franceschi × Stela Tamborin (1821–1821).
Joined on a name alone. One household above could not be date-checked, because this archive holds no year for the person or for the household. Treat that link as a lead.

This archive holds 9 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

The Defranceschi Archive
…He would have been fifteen in February 1773 — young for a witness … The two are not merged.» The burial does not merely give a Vittorio of the right age. It gives his father's name, and the name is Antonio. The row in burials.json reads: Vitorio Defranceschi, born 1758, died and buried 8 November 1812, aged 54, Svetvinčenat, kin: Antonio. It has been in this archive since the graves work went in. So the caution was not caution; it was not having read our own file. Leaving an identification open is…

…search the film grep-before-you-read An afternoon went on reading nineteen frames of a baptism register to find out who Vittorio Defranceschi's father was. The answer was in burials.json, in this repository, published on this site: Vitorio Defranceschi … aged 54 … kin: Antonio. One grep would have had it. The failure has a shape worth naming. The archive had ingested the burial index as dates and places — it drew them on a map and counted them — and never read the kin column as…
…of your own reading — resolve it and go back to the frame. Sources estimated-years-lose-their-label An ingested index's «birth» column may hold ages worked backwards from a burial, not baptisms. fsrecords.json lists «Vitorio Defranceschi, 1758, parent Antonio», which reads exactly like a baptism record and was very nearly chased as one. The underlying entry is his burial — 8 November 1812, aged 54 — and 1758 is FamilySearch's arithmetic, flagged on their own page as «Birth Year…

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
