Fažana

Forty-two records, every one of them ours — and most of what this archive has been calling the Pula cluster.

Fažana has been a single dot on the branch chart reading «baptisms and deaths at Fasana through the 1810s, 1840s and after». Read by image it holds forty-two records of the name between 1770 and 1855, and not one of them belongs to another family — a cleaner return than any Istrian parish except Ližnjan.

Two households. Vittorio De Franceschi × Stella Tamborin — written Etella, Steffa and Samburin by four different hands — baptise Perina on 23 April 1810, Vittorio in 1813, and Natale Mattio on 21 April 1816. Giuseppe De Franceschi × Giovanna Beluzzi baptise Elisabetta in 1810 and Irene on 13 October 1816; a Giovanna «of Giuseppe Defranceschi» is buried as early as 1770.

Those names matter. This archive's sweep table names the Pula cluster's people as «Natale Mattio, Angelo, Vitorio, Elisabetta, Irene De Franceschi». Natale Mattio, Vittorio, Elisabetta and Irene are Fažana's, four miles up the coast — another town-name supplied by a search that could not see a town.

One entry keeps two surnames at once: «Petrina Tamburin or Defranceschi», 1807.
