What the archive knows

⭐⭐ His row was two tree years. He is now a «Signor» with a house, an age to the half-year, and — probably — a second roster row. > 8. · Sig.ʳ Giovanni Pietro Defranceschi, N.º 36, d'anni 86½ — 1781 (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01069216: the Gologorica obit calendar, under 8 September.) Died 8 September 1781, aged eighty-six and a half, which puts his birth about March 1695. This row carries 1695–1781 off a family tree, and the register index agrees with both to within a season.

his style«Sig.ʳ» — Signor
his houseN.º 36 — the senior Defranceschi door, where Margarita, Sancta and Hellena also die
his full name«Giovanni Pietro» — not «Pietro»
⭐⭐ AND THAT FORENAME PAIR JOINS THIS ROW TO ANOTHER. This archive holds a Joannes Petrus Defranceschi of Gologorica who stands godparent at Gračišće in 1744, 1747 and 1750 — and whose row says, in terms: «No parents, age or house are attached to him on any of the three entries.» > Giovanni Pietro is Joannes Petrus. One row has three dated appearances and no dates; the other has dates and no appearances. This entry has both, and the house. ⚠ They are NOT merged. Identity here is by record, and nothing in this entry names the Gračišće godparent. The join is inf and is recorded on both rows so that whoever tests it can see what it rests on: a distinctive double forename, one parish, and an age that brackets all three godparent appearances. --- ⭐⭐ 10 October — the CONTEMPORARY entry, and the tomb is his. > «36. · Die 8 Septembris obijt · Dominus Joannes Petrus Defranceschi annorum 86, mensium 4, provisus in sua infirmitate Sacramentis Pœnitentiæ, Eucharistiæ et Extremæ Unctionis per me Marcum Bancich Parochum hujus Loci; sepultus est 9 in propria Arca ejusdem, per D.ⁿᵘᵐ Carolum Covas, Canonicum» (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068980, «Liber Mortuorum II», male sequence, 8 September 1781.)* Yesterday this row had him from the obit calendar, which is a copy made in 1800.* Here is the register the copy was made from.

⭐⭐ AND THE TOMB IS THE LINK. Leonardus the weaver, who died in 1773, was buried «in Arca D.ⁿⁱ Petri Defranceschi in hoc Parrochiali Ecclesia existente» — in this man's tomb, eight years before its owner was laid in it. So the Leonardus of house 45 and the Dominus Joannes Petrus of house 36 are one kin group, sharing a grave inside the parish church. ⚠ The register does not say how they were related and this archive does not guess. 86 years 4 months on 8 September 1781 puts his birth about May 1695, and this row's tree year is 1695. ✔ Confirmed, and now from the contemporary book rather than the copy. ⚠ The «86½» of the calendar is two months out — the second measured discrepancy in that copy, after the two days on Margaretta. ⚠ The burying canon is read «Carolum Covas» and the surname is not certain. ⭐ 11 October 2026 — and a 1767 entry that fits, without settling anything. > 11 Martij 1767, Gologorica: «patrini fuerunt D.ⁿᵘˢ Joannes Petrus Defranceschi…» (DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068922.) A man born about March 1695 is seventy-two in March 1767, and «Dominus» is the Latin of this row's «Sig.ʳ». The appearance is recorded on the other row, whose three Gračišće entries of 1744–1750 it extends by seventeen years. ⚠ The two rows are still not joined. This is one more thing that fits, and this village repeats its forenames. Told in full here.

⭐ His row was a surname, a place and the year 1701 off a family tree. He now has a day, and a book. > 30. · Pietro Defranceschi — 170— (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01069217: the Gologorica obit calendar, a perpetual index of the parish's dead by day of the year, opened for the first time on 9 October 2026.) He died on 30 September. The archive did not have a day for him. ⚠ THE YEAR IS NOT CONFIRMED AND THE TREE IS NOT BEING USED TO READ IT. At eight times the figure is «170» followed by a faint upright with a dot, beside the same scribe's unmistakable 1750, 1752, 1782 and 1788 in the four lines below. The decade 1700–1709 is certain. The final digit is not. The tree's 1701 is consistent with the page and is not confirmed by it, and that distinction is kept because this archive was wrong about single characters twice today. ⚠ And which Pietro this is, is inf. The archive holds a second Pietro of Gologorica, born 1695 and dead 1781. A death in the 1700s decade fits this row and not that one, and nothing further is claimed. ⚠ No age, no house, no parents. The calendar gives a day, a name and a year, and for many of its entries not even a house number. The register it indexes would give the rest.

Corrected 13 September 2026: the year 1817 was carried here as a birth year and cannot be one. This person is a parent in the household «Pietro De Franceschi × Maria Malusá» (1816–1824) at Vodnjan, the same place the row itself gives, and 1817 falls inside the years that household was bearing children. It is a first-appearance date, not a birth.

Corrected 13 September 2026: the year 1819 was carried here as a birth year and cannot be one. This person is a parent in the household «Pietro De Franceschi × Maria Malusá» (1816–1824) at Vodnjan, the same place the row itself gives, and 1819 falls inside the years that household was bearing children. It is a first-appearance date, not a birth.

⚠ Correction, 28 September. This row was written up yesterday as a child of Valentino × Helena, the Carnian who came to Fiume in the 1730s. It is not. That couple's children run 1737–1757, and Pietro's act names his mother as Ursula, not Helena. Pietro is a child of the LATER Valentino — Valentinus Defranceschi, born 1775/76, who married Ursula de Berzoni at Fiume on 6 October 1793 (1:1:6YBR-ZFPR). Baptised at Fiume on 10 April 1803. Right family, right port, wrong generation — which is the error this archive spent yesterday cataloguing in other people's work. Read on FamilySearch, 28 September 2026. Right man's name, right town, wrong century — by eighty-one years. 1:1:6B47-X6Z1 is the baptism of Pietro Defranceschi at Fiume on 10 April 1803, son of Valentino and Ursula. The row carried 1884–1957, copied from this archive's own graves data. Another child of the Valentino of Fiume, and with his mother's name — Ursula — which work list 143 did not have. Where this comes from

4 of the 4 relationships drawn above are written in a register this archive has read with its own eyes.

9 households were rejected before this chart was drawn, because the dates do not fit a person of this name: Nadal De Franceschi × Anta (1734) · Domenico De Franceschi × Zacchera Cerlon (1817) · Domenico De Franceschi × Zacchera Cerlon (1819) · Pietro De Franceschi × Maddalena Francin (1819) · Domenico De Franceschi × Maria Dorliguzzo (1837) · Gio. Maria De Franceschi × Michiela Zambaletta (1776) · Giuseppe De Franceschi q.m Pietro × Lucia Tromba (1818) · Stefano De Franceschi × Maria Forlanichio (1860) · Domenico De Franceschi × Mattea Delcarro (1858).

Joined on a name alone. One household above could not be date-checked, because this archive holds no year for the person or for the household. Treat that link as a lead.

The same name, written another way

This archive holds 12 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Petar Defranceski · Peter De Franceschi · Peter Defranceschi · Peter Defranceschi (Ritterkreuz, 1918) · Peter Defranceski · Petri Defranceschi · Petrus De Franceschi · Petrus Defranceschi · Piero De Franceschi · Pietro De Franceschi · Pietro De Franceschi (of Paluzza) · Pietro de Franceschi (of Svetvinčenat, fl. 1738)

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
