What the archive knows

Born 24 September 1895, baptised at the Pola cathedral on 8 December 1895 (house 6, Mercato Vecchio): «Joanna Barbara Angela», daughter of «Longhin Vincentius, Thomae, e Venetiis, faber lignarius» and «Rumsich Helena, qm Matthiae, e Besanova»; sponsor «Ghira Angelus, carpentarius» with Lonich Barbara; midwife Dobrez Helena (Pula births 1893–96, Liber X, p. 396, entry 821, image 650 of waypoint 9R2Z-3T1, open; doc). A margin note, read at level 13 on 25 October 2026: «nupsit Antonio Defranceschi, Polae 26.X.19?9» — she married Antonius Georgius Defranceschi, born at Pola on 9 April 1894 (h128), whose own baptism entry carries the reciprocal note «…Longhini, Polae 26.X.19?9»: the same day and place, each naming the other (doc for both notes; inf for the join, firm). The year digits are «19?9» in both notes — the third a loop that reads as 2 (1929) or 0, and which on the first note I read on 25 Oct as a raised 4; the marriage is 26 October 19?9, most likely 1929. Not of the name's surname; kept because she married a Defranceschi. Told in household h136 and in the Pula section.

The same name, written another way

This archive holds 1 other page under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Joanna Defranceschi

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

Ližnjan

…a marginal note on the baptism records his marriage at Pola to a «Longhin(i)», 26 October 19?9 — and the other half of that note is now read on the bride's own baptism (Pula births 1893–96, p. 396, entry 821: «nupsit Antonio Defranceschi, Polae 26.X.19?9», Joanna Barbara Longhin, b. 24 Sep 1895; doc): the year's third digit reads as 2 or 0, most likely 1929 (inf). That is the chain: Antonio «Matulin» → Mattio (d. 1839) → Antonio (b. 1819) → Antonius (b. 1848) → Antonius Georgius (b. 1894). Found through the Pula births…

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
