What the archive knows

Born at Sequals, Province of Udine, on 3 November 1873, and that is the fact the index did not carry. Passport 148535, issued Washington 18 December 1919: he sailed from Havre about February 1907, lived at Washington, District of Columbia from 1907, was naturalised before the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia on 4 October 1915, was domiciled at 309 14th Street NW, and gave his occupation as cement decorator — the Sequals trade, terrazzo and mosaic. His father is Pietro De Franceschi, already dead by 1919. Tobias, who applied in 1922 as a native citizen born at Washington, names Louis as his father. United States Passport Applications, the image read on 21 September 2026 — the transcript gives only «Italy»; the plate gives the town. (doc)

No family is drawn for this name, and no record stands behind it. This archive has not placed it in a household and holds no indexed entry for it — the name reached this project through a chart, a narrative source or the family tree, and everything it does hold is below. The Register is where a record would appear if one turned up.
The same name, written another way

This archive holds 5 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Aloysius Defranceschi (Labinaz) · Aloÿsius Defranceschi · Luigi De Franceschi · Luigi Defranceschi · Luigi “Louis” DeFranceschi

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
