What the archive knows

Born 29 June 1888 at Pola, baptised at the cathedral on 15 July (house 231, Abbazia): the first child, as far as this archive knows, of Emericus Zuban and Leopolda Defranceschi. The entry reads «Zuban Emericus, Matthaei e Pyrrhano, faber ferrarius» and «Defranceschi Leopolda, Antonii e Gallignana»; sponsors «Bursich Matthaeus, caterarius» and «Bacich Joannes»; midwife Morin Gabriela (Pula births 1887–96, Liber IX, p. 143, entry 473, image 86 of waypoint 9R2Z-3T1, open; doc — read at level 13 on 18 October 2026). A margin note in a later hand: «uxorem duxit Polae 23.II.1914 Annam Pecinić» — so he married at Pola on 23 February 1914 (doc for the note; the marriage entry itself is not on a film this archive has reached). His mother is Leopolda, daughter of Antonius the stonecutter of Gračišće (inf for the identification, as there; the entry gives her father only as «Antonii» and her birthplace as Gallignana). The baptism writes his father's trade «faber ferrarius» (smith); the 1888 marriage entry wrote «carpenter» — as read, and not reconciled. Not of the name's surname; kept because his mother is a Defranceschi.

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

This person has not been written up in an essay yet — most often read straight off a register page that no index anywhere contains. What is known is at the top, and the pages linked above are where the finding sits.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
