Orlis / Ortis

A family that married into our own direct line.

Three generations of Ortis stand beside this family, across seventy-two years. Matthaeus at the font in 1787, his son Dominus Joannes in 1813, and Clotilda marrying Franciscus Xaverius Defranceschi — Carlo's brother — in 1859. The connection to Novaki is not the marriage; the marriage is the end of it.

⚠ The name is spelled two ways in two books of the same parish. The 1894 status animarum gives Orlis; the 1826 book gives Ortis. Neither is preferred, because this archive's rule is that a hand is only legible against itself and the same scribe has not been found writing both forms. The row carries both until one is settled.

Novaki is also where a priest of Gologorica came from — Josephus Flegar, born 16 April 1845, in the succession on the line page. Nothing joins them; it is recorded because the parish is small and the next person should know the name is in both places.
