Giovanni Defranceschi (godfather at Pola, 1869)
Giovanni Defranceschi (godfather at Pola, 1869), Pula. Named once, as a godfather, at Pola in 1869: Giovanni De-/franceschi, capo e …, with Pietro Mon. Every record this archive holds for this one person, with the document behind each.
The family
This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Brothers and sisters are not drawn here: this archive records kin against a NAME rather than against a person, so the family on a name page may belong to several different people of that name. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.
6 relationships on this chart were never date-tested. This archive refuses a relative whose years do not fit — more than six out for a child, outside twelve to sixty for a parent. Where one side has no year at all that test cannot run, and the link is drawn on the name. It is shown because most people in the early registers carry no year, and refusing them would empty the chart of the centuries this archive exists to show. It is counted here because a line nothing tested is a weaker claim than a line that passed, and the chart cannot tell them apart.
What the archive knows
doc). Read at level 13 on 26 October 2026: the surname is written across the line end, «De-» then «franceschi», with the c, e and sch plain; the word after «capo e» (his trade or rank) is a hurried one I could not read — «fovator…/pavator…» is the nearest and I do not claim it. A pencilled note in the left margin of the entry mentions the godparents and «21 luglio 1869» (read at level 12 only, not understood).
Who he is is not settled. The parents are Belluno people; the godfather is a witness, with a second witness, not kin. The archive has one Giovanni Defranceschi at Pola by then: Johann Defranceschi, k.k. Marinediener, born at Gračišće in 1833, who married in the naval parish on 16 January 1871 and is not found in the civil books before that — a navy servant who stood godfather at a civil baptism two years earlier is possible (inf, weak: the page gives no age, birthplace or father, and «capo» may be a foreman of the arsenal, a rank of the navy or something else). The two rows are not merged. Not counted as a find of a new family. No one else in this archive carries this name.
