This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.

What the archive knows

⭐⭐ A little boy of three and a half, born at Medulin, dead at Pola in the war — spelled «Defrančeski». Entry 330 of the Pola «Sterbe-Buch» of 1915 (the wartime death book kept in German and Croatian): «Ivan Defranceski» — died 8 November 1915, buried 10 November; born «Medulin, Pola» [Istria]; age «3½» [years]; cause «Pneumonie» and «Herzschwäche» (image 27; doc). The entry names no parents (the line under his name is empty; the «Ivan i Luca» above it belongs to the previous entry, Slavica Raddović), so his family is not established from this page. The spelling is Croatian: «Defrančeski», with a háček on the c, in a book kept in German and Croatian — a form of the name the archive otherwise meets in the Ližnjan rows as «Defranceski» (1876–96). He was born at Medulin about spring 1912 (inf from 3½ in November 1915). The Medulin books on the film end in 1890 (births) and 1899 (deaths), so his baptism is not among those filmed; the Medulin line (Antonio b. 1819, direct line) is where to look for his father.
