Antonia de Franceschi (b. 1759)
Antonia de Franceschi (b. 1759), 1759. Svetvinčenat. Every mention of this name in the archive — 2 across 3 pages.
The first Defranceschi child this archive has read out of the Svetvinčenat baptism register for the eighteenth century — and the record that finally gives a wife of the name a forename. > «Die 7 9bris [1759]. — carta 162. Born 5 November 1759, baptised on the 7th, to Giacomo de Franceschi and Paschasia — Pasqua — both of the parish. (doc.) Whose Giacomo he is, is open. A Jacobus Defranceschi stands godfather in the same register on 6 August 1758, and a Giacomo who died before November 1771 is known from the marriage register. They may be one man; nothing read so far distinguishes them. (inf.) See Giacomo de Franceschi d. Bef 1771. She is the youngest of four, not an only child. The same couple — Giacomo de Franceschi and Pascasia — appear as parents four times in this register: a child baptised 25 March 1750 whose forename sits in smeared ink and would not resolve; Giacomo Battista de Franceschi (b. 1753), born 19 August 1753; Giovanni de Franceschi (b. 1756), baptised 10 January 1756; and Antonia herself in November 1759. It is the first household of the name at Svetvinčenat this archive can follow across a decade. (doc.)
This archive holds 5 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

…And the road was still open a century later: reading the Svetvinčenat marriage film frame by frame turns up FIVE people out of Carnia marrying into that one castle in ten years — Nicolò Corva «dà Cargna» (1774), Gio: Batta Stefanuto «da Cargna» who married Antonia de Franceschi (1779, and again as her widower in 1784), Pellegrino Colla of Muina with Orsola Verona «pura nativa in Carnia» (1782), and Giacomo Puspil of Prato in Carnia (1783). Two are marked diocese of Udine; Muina and Prato are a few miles apart in the upper Degano.…
…a common name. The archive does not know, and the diagram no longer pretends otherwise. ⚠ And the castle kept its Carnian road open: five people out of Carnia marry into this parish between 1774 and 1784, one of them to a daughter of this very family — Antonia de Franceschi, who married Gio: Batta Stefanuto «da Cargna» in 1779 and was dead by 1784. The count is set out on the Carnia line and in the reading below. liznjan The Ližnjan line documented origin Elena di…
A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
