What the archive knows

⚠⚠ TWO ROWS, ONE WOMAN — joined 11 October 2026, and the duplicate was mine. This archive carries her twice: maria-luigia-defranceschi-1880 («Maria Luigia», b. 1880, d. 1909, «Gračišće, Istria», off the MyHeritage tree, empty note) and maria-luizia-defranceschi-1880 («Maria Aloysia», minted from the register on 11 October). I minted the second without checking for the first, which is the one thing this archive's rules ask first. ✔ They are the same woman, and the two sources corroborate each other. The 1862 book enters her «nata a Gollignana» — born at Gračišće on 12 September 1880, three days after her father Joannes Baptista died — and the tree, which knew nothing of that register, places her at Gračišće. The tree adds a death of 1909. ⚠ On the name, both forms are right. «Luigia» is the Italian of «Aloysia», and the books write each — «Maria, Luigia» in the 1894 census, «Maria-Aloysia» in the 1862 recap, «Maria Luizia» in the cramped household entry. No form is preferred.* Both ids are kept and frozen; neither is merged away, and this note is the join. Told here. --- ⚠ Name corrected 11 October 2026 — she is «Maria-Aloysia», not «Maria Luizia». The book's own genealogical recap (M01069550) writes it out plainly where the household entry was cramped; the misreading was this archive's own, made the same morning. The pid keeps its minted form. --- Born at GRAČIŠĆE on 12 September 1880 — three days after her father died. > Gologorica Status Animarum 1862 (M01069446): «Maria Luizia filia, nata a Gollignana» · n. 12/9/80 · Adnotatio «Nota 16/9/80» Daughter of Joannes Baptista Defranceschi, who died 9 September 1880, and of Ruža née Salamon. A posthumous child, and her mother went to Gallignana to bear her. (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01069446, Gologorica Status Animarum 1862.)

No family is drawn for this name, and no record stands behind it. This archive has not placed it in a household and holds no indexed entry for it — the name reached this project through a chart, a narrative source or the family tree, and everything it does hold is below. The Register is where a record would appear if one turned up.
The same name, written another way

This archive holds 1 other page under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Maria Luigia Defranceschi

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

The Defranceschi Archive

…the birth/baptism gap The Gologorica line This archive holds Maria Defranceschi, born 16 August 1811, and the 1826 census agrees. Her baptism entry says the 14th. «Die 17ma Augusti 1811· Maria Aloysia Defranceschi nata die 14ta hujus hora 8va mane» — born on the 14th at eight in the morning, baptised on the 17th. ⚠ This is NOT the same thing that explained her brothers. For Carlo and Franciscus Xaverius the archive held the birth and the census…

The census assigns every one of them to a marriage. --- ⚠⚠ And it caught a duplicate I made yesterday Yesterday I minted «Maria Aloysia Defranceschi», born 12 September 1880, daughter of Ruža by her first marriage — and corrected my own earlier reading of her name from «Luizia» to «Aloysia» on the strength of the 1862 recap. This archive already had her. «Maria Luigia…

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
