What the archive knows

⚠⚠ TWO ROWS, ONE WOMAN — joined 11 October 2026, and the duplicate was mine. This archive carries her twice: maria-luigia-defranceschi-1880 («Maria Luigia», b. 1880, d. 1909, «Gračišće, Istria», off the MyHeritage tree, empty note) and maria-luizia-defranceschi-1880 («Maria Aloysia», minted from the register on 11 October). I minted the second without checking for the first, which is the one thing this archive's rules ask first. ✔ They are the same woman, and the two sources corroborate each other. The 1862 book enters her «nata a Gollignana» — born at Gračišće on 12 September 1880, three days after her father Joannes Baptista died — and the tree, which knew nothing of that register, places her at Gračišće. The tree adds a death of 1909. ⚠ On the name, both forms are right. «Luigia» is the Italian of «Aloysia», and the books write each — «Maria, Luigia» in the 1894 census, «Maria-Aloysia» in the 1862 recap, «Maria Luizia» in the cramped household entry. No form is preferred.* Both ids are kept and frozen; neither is merged away, and this note is the join. Told here.

The same name, written another way

This archive holds 1 other page under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Maria Aloysia Defranceschi

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

The Gologorica Line

…Defranceschi», born 12 September 1880 (/corrections/), daughter of Ruža by her first marriage — and corrected my own earlier reading of her name from «Luizia» to «Aloysia» on the strength of the 1862 recap. This archive already had her. «Maria Luigia Defranceschi», born 1880, died 1909, place «Gračišće, Istria» — a MyHeritage row with an empty note, carried under a pid of its own. I did not check for her before minting, which is the one thing this archive's rules ask first.…

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
