the direct line, argued on the line

This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Brothers and sisters are not drawn here: this archive records kin against a NAME rather than against a person, so the family on a name page may belong to several different people of that name. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.

What the archive knows

⭐⭐ The son of the navy servant Johann Defranceschi who grew up — born at Pola in 1881, married in the cathedral there in 1911. Born at Pola on 2 April 1881, baptised there on 19 April 1881 — «Johann Carl», son of «Defranceschi Johann, k.k. Marinediener 2. Cl., aus Galignana in Istrien» and «Paula Petra, ehel. Tochter des Peter Rocco, Besitzers [landowner], aus Pola»; godparents a «Giovanni …» [surname uncertain], a landowner, and «Carlo Rocco, agente»; baptised by Johann Germek, Marine-Curat; the midwife is named in the remark column. A later note under the father's entry reads «Nº 229 ex 1913. Dieser Täufling wurde am 10. Juli 1911 in der Dompfarrkirche in Pola mit Ida Revelant getraut» (Pola k.u.k. naval parish baptism book 1876–1884, image 147; doc). He is the fourth known child of Johann and Paula Pietra of h132 and the only one known to have grown up: his three siblings died in 1874, 1882 and 1890. His marriage in 1911 is a lead — the Pola cathedral marriage book of 10 July 1911 (not yet searched) should name him, his bride Ida Revelant and their parents.
