--- ⚠⚠ 10 October 2026 — «THE 1773 DEATH REGISTER HAS BEEN READ, AND HE IS NOT IN IT» — AND THAT WAS WRONG WITHIN THE HOUR. See below. This row's 1773 comes from a family tree and nothing else, and the marriage of 9 June 1774 says the groom's father Leonardus was already dead. So the parish death register — kept by the same priest through both years — is where he should be. The 1773 deaths, in full: 7 March · 12 March · 4 May · 3 July · 1 August · 12 September · 13 October · 27 November. (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068988–M01068991, «Liber Mortuorum II».)* > Eight deaths. Not one of them a Defranceschi. ⚠ So this row's year has no support in the parish's own register, and the other death book gives a Leonardo Defranceschi dying 2 November 1751. That makes the 1751 man the stronger candidate for the 1774 groom's father, where yesterday the two stood level. ⚠ The year is NOT changed and nothing is withdrawn. A man can die outside his parish, a register can drop an entry, and eight deaths in a year is a low count for a village of a hundred and thirty houses — which is a reason to doubt the book's completeness before doubting the tree. What is recorded is that the register was asked and did not answer. --- # ⭐⭐⭐ HE IS IN IT — and he is «TEXTOR EX CARNIA» The eight 1773 deaths read above were eight women. This volume is split by sex and he is in the male sequence, forty frames earlier. > «45 · Die 14 Martij obijt · Leonardus Defranceschi annorum septuaginta sex, provisus Sacramento Pœnitentiæ per me Marcum Bancich Parochum, sepultus vero est 15 in Arca D.ⁿⁱ Petri Defranceschi in hoc Parrochiali Ecclesia existente. His death entry, read at last — and the row had been carrying the two years with nothing behind them. > Gologorica deaths, image M01069271, page 84: «1848 Aprilis 14° · 5 · Leonardus Defranceschi, CIVIS, refectus SS Sacramentis moribundorum et sepultus die 15° hujus · 82 · febris cum senectute» House 5. Dead 14 April 1848, aged eighty-two, of fever with old age, buried the next day, having received the last rites. Eighty-two in April 1848 closes exactly on the birth this archive already held for him — 30 January 1766. (doc.) ⭐ «CIVIS», where every other adult on the page is «agricola». A burgher, not a farmer — the status this family carries wherever these registers name it, and the reason its sons turn up as students, painters and army doctors while the village around them farms. ⭐ AND THE CHILD WAS NAMED FOR HIM WHILE HE WAS STILL ALIVE. Leonardus Defranceschi was baptised at house 5 on 22 January 1847 — fifteen months before this Leonardus died in the same house. The same name, the same door, two lives overlapping by a little over a year. That child lived to 1917.* ⚠ This row previously had no note at all — the third bare or stale roster row found the same way in one afternoon.
⭐⭐ 11 October 2026 — he married twice, and the census marks the children of each. > Gologorica Status Animarum 1862 (M01069447): «Maria n. Flegar», n. 4 Apr 1842, d. 28 Sept 1882; then «Maria Udovičić · II. uxor», n. 28 Sept 1857, m. 3 April 1883; then «Antonius Leopoldus filius · ex II. votis», n. 29 Jan 1884. Six months a widower. The household is told here. (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01069447, Gologorica Status Animarum 1862.) --- Born 22 January 1847, baptised the 23rd — and his death written into the margin seventy years later. Gologorica baptisms, folio 108 (M01069122), house 5: «LEONARDUS natus heri», of «Antonius Defranceschi» and «Francisca nata Defranceschi»; and beneath the entry, in a twentieth-century hand, «† 20.XII.1917». (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214.)* This archive already held 1847–1917 off the family tree, with an empty note. Verification, not discovery — but both years are now exact days, and the second of them comes from a register keeper who went back to a seventy-year-old page to close it. His father is the Antonius whom the 1826 census showed to be Leonardus's adopted nephew — so he is named for the great-uncle who took his father in. His sisters are Teresia (1843) and Maria (1845).
The same person as Leonardus Defranceschi — same name, same years, same place, entered twice from the same reading. Not a wrong date, a double insert, which is the other thing a copied year can mean. Adjudicated 27 September 2026.
This archive holds 2 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
