This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Brothers and sisters are not drawn here: this archive records kin against a NAME rather than against a person, so the family on a name page may belong to several different people of that name. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.

What the archive knows

Head of house 17 and of the titled branch — dead at sixty of consumption, a widower. > «Admodum R.dus D.nus Martinus Sestan, PAROCHUS NOVACENSIS, de licentia mea parochi presentis · [domus] 17 · Die 23. Januarii 1813 · D.nus JOANNES BAPTA DEFRANCESCHI, VIDUUS, defuncti Josephi filius · annorum 60 · Phthisis» (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01069248, page 39 of the Gologorica death register.) This archive held him as born about October 1752, died 23 January 1813, with the note «Dominus» and nothing else. The register agrees with the date to the day — verification, not discovery — and adds the rest: a widower, son of the late Josephus, at house 17, of phthisis, aged sixty. And he was buried by the parish priest of Novaki, «de licentia mea parochi presentis» — by licence of Gologorica's own. Novaki is where Clotilda Ortis came from two generations later; the parishes of this corner lent each other priests constantly. ⚠ Not to be confused with «Josephus DE-PRATO», a student of twenty-five who died three rows below him in March 1813 and whose surname, broken across a line, reads as a Defranceschi at page scale. He is not one. --- ⭐⭐⭐ 9 October 2026 — HIS MARRIAGE, and he went to the Kvarner for it. > «Die 10 9bris pro domo D. Sebastiani Sablich, Nuptiis in facie Ecclesiæ contractis inter D.ⁿᵘᵐ Joannem Bap.[tistam] [De]franceschi ex GOLLOGORIZZA et D. Catharinam Sablich, tradidit D. Parochus Buccarensis Jacobus Polian, præsentibus Senatore D. Josepho Walis et D. Josepho Smich» (doc — FamilySearch, «Croatia, Delnice Deanery Catholic Church Books, 1571–1926»: Bakar, Religious Marriage Registers 1739–1808, film 005494714, item 1, image 172 of 226, page 161. Index 1:1:6Z2F-LSSQ; image 3:1:3QSQ-G99X-RX3F.)* He is thirty-one, styled «Dominus», and the Bakar scribe writes his village into the entry: «ex Gollogorizza». The Gologorica register has no Defranceschi marriage in those years — he married in the bride's parish, a hundred and thirty kilometres away and under a different crown. ⚠ Twenty-one years later he is buried a widower, by the parish priest of Novaki, of consumption, at sixty. Between the two entries this archive holds three of his household's burials in six years and a wife dead at twenty-six. The marriage is the beginning of that sequence and it had never been found. ⚠ The entry gives him no patronymic, so it does not independently confirm the «defuncti Josephi filius» of his death record; the identification rests on the place, the date, the wife and the style. (doc for the entry; inf that he is this man.) --- ⭐⭐ 10 October — he is called his father's son in 1772, forty-one years before his burial says it. > 20 February 1772 · «[Mat]hia filia legitima jugalium Leonardi et Catharinæ Deprato[—] baptizata est a me Marco Bancich Parocho hujus Loci; patrini fuerunt D.ⁿᵘˢ JOANNES BAPTISTA DEFRANCESCHI FILIUS D.ⁿⁱ JOSEPHI, et ROSALIA FILIA EJUSDEM D.ⁿⁱ JOSEPHI.» (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068930, «Liber Baptizatorum II», 20 February 1772. The ink is faint; the entry was magnified before transcription.) This row's whole claim to a father is the 1813 death entry — «D.ⁿᵘˢ JOANNES BAPTA DEFRANCESCHI, VIDUUS, defuncti Josephi filius». Here he is, aged twenty, standing godfather and described the same way while his father was alive. ⭐ And the other godparent is his sister. «Rosalia filia ejusdem D.ⁿⁱ Josephi» — a row that was a name and a place until today. Brother and sister standing together at a font in February 1772. ⚠ And the child they stood for is NOT one of ours. At page scale the parents read «Leonardi et Catharinæ Defranceschi»; at magnification the surname is «Deprato[—]». The standing Gologorica warning, and this archive walked into it again and was caught by the same rule that catches it every time. --- ✔ 11 October — named his father's son a THIRD time, and distinguished from his namesake in the same sentence. > 3 October 1786 · «Patrini fuerunt Joannes Bapta Defranceschi MARITUS THERESIÆ, et Cattarina nata JABLICH uxor Joannis Baptistæ FILIJ JOSEPHI Defranceschi, ambo ex hac Parochia.» (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068950, «Liber Baptizatorum II».)*
1772«Joannes Baptista Defranceschi filius D.ⁿⁱ Josephi»
1786«uxor Joannis Baptistæ filij Josephi Defranceschi»
1813«VIDUUS, defuncti Josephi filius»
And in the 1786 entry the parish priest separates the two men of this name himself — the other is «maritus Theresiæ», the weaver's son of house 45. The archive has been doing by inference what the scribe did by habit. ⭐ 11 October 2026 — and the sonship is now written four times, the earliest in 1769. > 18 Decembris 1769 · «patrini fuerunt D.ⁿᵘˢ Joannes Baptista FILIUS D.ⁿⁱ JOSEPHI Defranceschi, et Helena uxor ejusdem D.ⁿⁱ Josephi, hujates» (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068926, «Liber Baptizatorum II».) Written out in 1769, 1772, 1786 and in his own death entry of 1813. ⚠ He would be seventeen here, on this row's own arithmetic. Young for a godfather, not impossible, and nothing is adjusted on the strength of it — the sonship is doc three further times. Twelve weeks earlier the same priest entered the other man of the name as «filius Leonardi» on the same page. This one carries «D.ⁿᵘˢ»; that one does not. ✔ A fifth: 19 September 1770 (M01068927) — «patrini fuerunt D.ⁿᵘˢ Joannes Baptista filius D.ⁿⁱ Josephi Defranceschi, et Helena uxor ejusdem Defranceschi». ⚠ Here «ejusdem» is ambiguous and could make Helena his own wife; the December 1769 entry writes «uxor ejusdem D.ⁿⁱ Josephi» in full and settles it.
