The family

No family chart is drawn for this person, and that is a statement about the data rather than about them. This archive records kin against a name — the tree on a name page gathers everyone who shares it, so it may hold one person's dates beside another's wife. Rather than hand a reader a family that might not be this person's, the chart is drawn only where the relationship is recorded person by person, which today means the direct line.

What the archive knows

The head of casa 31, and until 9 October 2026 this archive had him only as a byname in a clerk's index. > «45ᵃ Joannes Baptista Defranceschi q.ᵐ Leonardi filius, professionis suæ Textor, copulatus est cum Virgine Theresia, filia Antonij Grah ex Parochia Cherbune» — 9 June 1774. (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068999, Gologorica marriages 1770–1789.) ⭐ «detti Leonardi» was a patronymic all along. The Gologorica death book's index files a girl who died at house 31 in 1786 under «Defranceschi Joanes Bapta detti Leonardi · N.º 12», and this archive read that as a byname for telling two households apart. The marriage register writes it in Latin: «q.ᵐ Leonardi filius» — son of the late Leonardus. ⭐ He is a WEAVER, «professionis suæ Textor» — the only man on that page of the register who is not «Agricola». Why that matters to the Carnian argument, and how the word was verified against the same scribe's other hand. ⚠ NOT the same man as Joannes Baptista Defranceschi, son of Josephus, born 1752, of house 36 and later 17, widower of Catharina née Jablich. The same volume distinguishes them nine months apart: that man appears as a witness on 15 September 1773 as «Joanne Baptista Defranceschi filio D.ni Josephi». ⚠ No dates, no age, no parents attached as fact. A Leonardus Defranceschi of Gologorica died in 1773, the year before this marriage, which fits «q.ᵐ» exactly — but the entry does not date the father's death and more than one Leonardus lived here, so the identification is inf and the link is not made. --- ⚠ SAME DAY — THE IDENTIFICATION OF HIS FATHER IS WEAKENED, BY A SECOND LEONARDO WHO HAS A DOCUMENT. This row reads «q.ᵐ Leonardi filius» against the Leonardus the family tree dates 1697–1773, and called it inf because that year comes from a tree and nothing else. The obit calendar, opened hours later, buries a Leonardo Defranceschi on 2 November 1751 — and on 13 November 1755 a Matteo «figlio q. Leonardo Defranceschi», which confirms that Leonardo was dead and had sons. A man marrying in 1774 whose father died in 1751 is a man of twenty-three or more. The word «q.ᵐ» fits him exactly as well. So the archive now has two candidate fathers: one with a death day and year off a register index, and one with a year off a family tree. ⚠ Neither is chosen, no parent is attached, and the earlier sentence is left standing with this beneath it — the 1773 reading was never more than inf and is now inf against a documented rival. --- ⭐⭐ A SON, and he is at the house the list predicted. > 45 · «Joannes Petrus Defranceschi, filius legitimus Joannis Bapt[istæ] Defranceschi et ejus uxoris Theresiæ» — 2 July 1780 (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068965, Gologorica baptisms, 2 July 1780.)* Six years after the marriage, and the first child of it this archive has. ⭐ And the house number is the test passing: the house list puts the Defranceschi at 45 and 46, and the sweep's first hit is at 45. ⚠ His later children are entered at «casa 31» in 1785 and 1787 — one household under two numbers, which is the renumbering problem and is not solved by noticing it. --- ✔✔ 10 October — HIS FATHER IS FOUND, AND THE IDENTIFICATION IS NOW doc. > «45 · Die 14 Martij obijt · Leonardus Defranceschi annorum septuaginta sex, provisus Sacramento Pœnitentiæ per me Marcum Bancich Parochum, sepultus vero est 15 in Arca D.ⁿⁱ Petri Defranceschi in hoc Parrochiali Ecclesia existente. ( : professionis suæ TEXTOR EX CARNIA : )» (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068977, «Liber Mortuorum II», male sequence, 14 March 1773.)* Leonardus Defranceschi died at house 45 on 14 March 1773, fifteen months before this man married out of that house — and the 1774 entry calls him «q.ᵐ Leonardi filius». The two candidate fathers of yesterday are resolved: it is the man of 1773. ⭐⭐ AND HIS FATHER WAS A WEAVER TOO — «professionis suæ TEXTOR ex Carnia» in 1773, «professionis suæ Textor» in 1774. Yesterday this archive argued that one weaver among Agricolae was worth noticing; two in one house across two generations is a trade descent — and the father's entry says where the trade came from.* --- ✔ 11 October — the parish priest distinguishes him from his namesake by name, in one sentence. > 3 October 1786 · «Patrini fuerunt Joannes Bapta Defranceschi MARITUS THERESIÆ, et Cattarina nata JABLICH uxor Joannis Baptistæ FILIJ JOSEPHI Defranceschi, ambo ex hac Parochia.» (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068950, «Liber Baptizatorum II».)* «Joannes Bapta Defranceschi, MARITUS THERESIÆ» — the husband of Theresia, which is the marriage of 9 June 1774. And in the same breath the other man is «Joannis Baptistæ filij Josephi». Two men of one name at one font, told apart by their wives, by the priest who knew both. --- ⭐⭐ 11 October 2026 — five years before his wedding, and his father is still alive. > 24 Septembris 1769 · «patrini fuerunt Joannes Baptista Defranceschi FILIUS LEONARDI, et Mathia uxor Pauli Crosgnich, ambo hujates» (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068926, «Liber Baptizatorum II».) There is no «q.ᵐ» here. The marriage of June 1774 has one — «Joannes Baptista Defranceschi q.ᵐ Leonardi filius» — and the death register buries Leonardus Defranceschi, «annorum septuaginta sex … TEXTOR EX CARNIA», on 15 March 1773, between the two. Three documents, three hands, and the «q.ᵐ» appears exactly where it should. This is also the earliest thing on this row: he was standing at fonts in 1769, and the parish was already distinguishing him from the other Joannes Baptista by his father. ✔✔ And the «q.ᵐ» argument is now tested, not assumed. > 29 Octobris 1773 · «patrini fuerunt Joannes Baptista Defranceschi q.ᵐ Leonardi…» (M01068932) The same scribe writes this name four times: 1769 without the «q.ᵐ», 1773 and 1774 with it — and the one change falls in the gap where the death register buries Leonardus, 15 March 1773. The absence of 1769 is a statement, not a silence. ⭐⭐ And a DAUGHTER, two years after the wedding — born in her mother's parish. > 15.ᵃ Martij 1776 · «Josepha Mariana filia legitima Joannis Baptistæ ejusque uxoris Theresiæ, nata et baptizata ad Cherbunam…» (M01068934.) She is the girl who died at house 31 on 4 October 1786, aged ten, whose death entry named no parents — and the two dates agree to the month. This household's children are no longer one: Joannes Petrus in 1780 and Josepha Mariana in 1776. His daughter's godparents are the other branch — Joannes Baptista and Rosalia, the two children of D.ⁿᵘˢ Josephus. ⚠⚠ AND A WARNING THAT ATTACHES TO THIS ROW ABOVE ALL OTHERS. > 5 Februarij 1783 · «Patrini fuerunt Joannes Baptista DEPRATO, Leonardi filius, et Catharina uxor ejusdem Leonardi» (M01068943) There was a Joannes Baptista Deprato son of Leonardus Deprato at Gologorica at the same time as this man. Where the surname is abbreviated, damaged or omitted, the patronymic names both and distinguishes neither. Every identification on this row that rests on «Joannes Baptista … Leonardi» wants its surname checked. ⭐⭐ A FOURTH CHILD, and the trade is written on him a third time. > 35 · Die 12. Augusti 1787 · «baptizavi filium legitimum natum ex Joanne Baptista et Teresia DEFRANCESCHJ, conjugibus hujus Parochiæ, professione TEXTOR. Cui nomen impositum est Joannes Bapta.» (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214, M01068946, «Liber Baptizatorum II».) His children now number four: Josepha Mariana 1776 · Joannes Petrus 1780 · Franciscus Antonius 1785 · Joannes Baptista 1787. ⭐ And the weaving runs three documents deep — his father buried «TEXTOR EX CARNIA» in 1773, himself «professionis suæ Textor» at his marriage in 1774, and «professione Textor» here in 1787. ⚠ The house is 31 in 1785 and 35 here. Recorded, not resolved.
