Mattio (Matteo) Defranceschi, «di Antonio, detto Matulin» (Ližnjan house 17)
Mattio (Matteo) Defranceschi, «di Antonio, detto Matulin» (Ližnjan house 17), 1839. Ližnjan. Every mention of this name in the archive — 1 across 1 page.
Mattio Defranceschi, son of an Antonio, called «Matulin» — an agricoltore at Ližnjan house 17, married to Madalena (Maddalena) Percovich. doc — he is the father in the baptisms of Antonio (16 Sept 1819, page 4) and Maria (7 Jan 1821, page 5) and of Gregorio (23 May 1822, page 6; baptism read); and the groom's father in the marriages of Antonio (1843) and Gregorio (1845). Died 20 December 1839, aged 40 as read, at house 17 («Mattio Franceschi d.to Marulin, agr.», Ližnjan deaths, page 93 — read by the 12 October session, doc; the marriage of 12 November 1815 gave him 21, so the two ages disagree by five years, recorded and not split; told on the Ližnjan page). So the «fu Matteo» of 1843 and after is his son's way of naming a dead father. His father is an Antonio, and the byname «Matulin» is the one the Pomer deaths index writes «d.º Mattulia» (inf: that index line, «Antonio Defranceschi d.º Mattulia», may be Mattio's father — or Mattio himself called by the family name; neither is established). Ližnjan births 1816–1864, image 6 of waypoint 9R2Z-44D (open). A grandson Mattio, son of Antonio, was baptised on 8 and buried on 16 January 1850. Daughters, doc: Maria (about 1816; married Martino Mocorich, 23 February 1848) and Madalena (about 1830; married Antonio Paolo Hasovich, 23 July 1849) — both marriages name her father as the late «Matteo Defranceschi» of house 17 and her mother as Maddalena Perkovich. So Mattio's children run from about 1816 to about 1830: Maria, Antonio (1819), Maria (1821), Gregorio (1822), Madalena (about 1830). His widow: Madalena Percovich, about 27 at the marriage of 1815 (born about 1788) — probably the «Maddalena fu Matteo Defranceschi», 61, buried at house 17 on 6 January 1849 (inf; 61 in 1849 is 1788 again). His earliest child found is Maria, baptised 15 October 1816 — his name written there «Mattio de Franceschi d.to ma-[?]ulich» (the byname Matulin, in the hand of 1816), the godparents Luca Percovich fu Luca and Maria, as in 1819. The byname: «deto Marulin» in the marriage of 1815 and the burial of 1839 (read by the 12 October session), «ma-[?]ulich» in 1816, and in 1819 «deto matulin» — read in the scribe's own hand at native size on 16 October, the third letter formed like the t of «agricoltore» on the line below and not like the r of «Percovich». One byname, two spellings (r or t); the Pomer deaths index writes «d.º Mattulia», which needs the t. Not settled. Madalena's baptism, 31 July 1830 (page 15), writes the byname «d.to matulinch» — a plain t, in a third hand (1819 «matulin», 1822 «Matulin»); with the r of «Marulin» in 1815 and 1839 the name is Matulin/Marulin, and the t spelling is now in three baptisms.

This archive holds 12 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
