What the archive knows

On a De Franceschi stone in the Carnian cemeteries, read from the photograph. > GIO: BATTA DE FRANCESCHI 1880 – 1963 and TERESA COMUZZI 1886 – 1963, «I FIGLI», a carved Madonna and Child between them. Read 29 September 2026 from David's photographs of the Carnian cemeteries — Ovaro, Mione, Muina and Agrons. ⚠ Which of the four cemeteries this stone stands in is not distinguished in the photographs, and is not guessed here. (doc for the inscription.) ⚠ Husband and wife died in the same year, 1963. The stone gives no months. «Gio: Batta» is the Venetian contraction of Giovanni Battista — the same form cut on the lintel of the house at Gologorica two centuries earlier.

Where this comes from

1 of the 3 relationships drawn above is written in a register this archive has read with its own eyes. 2 come from a FamilySearch index entry — a transcription, not the page.

This person has no recorded year. The archive estimates a birth about 1782 — somewhere between 1771 and 1791, estimated from a household beginning in 1809 — **not a recorded year**. The households above were tested against that estimate rather than a date, on a deliberately loose window. That is a sanity check, not a verification — it can throw out an absurdity, and it cannot confirm a link.

The same name, written another way

This archive holds 11 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
