What the archive knows

They are TWINS, and the register says which came first. Gologorica baptisms, folio 134 (M01069147), house 7 — two consecutive entries, both «1868 Maji 31ma», both of «Franciscus Defranceschi, possidens» and «Clotildis nata Ortis», midwife «Matthæa Stojsich»: > «MARIA HENRICA die 5 A[prilis] PRIUS NATA» > «CLOTILDIS ADELAIDIS die 5 Aprilis nata» Prius nata — born earlier. (doc — DAPA ZM34K-214.) Born 5 April 1868, baptised 31 May — fifty-six days, the longest gap this family shows; Maria Henrica's entry adds «praesentata», the word used when a child was baptised privately at birth and later brought for the ceremonies. (That one word is offered, not leaned on.)* This archive held both dates and no idea they belonged to one morning: two rows with one date is as likely to be a copying error as a twin birth. ⭐ She is named for her godfather. «Henricus Defranceschi» stands for her, with «Maria Nazinavich» — Enrichus Jacobus, born 11 March 1830, her father's brother. The elder twin. Her sister is Clotildis Adelaidis.

The same name, written another way

This archive holds 1 other page under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
